Fishing and angling is one of the most popular recreational activities. The Eksjö municipal area contains some 170 lakes, rivers and waterways, most of which form part of the Emån river system. The lakes feed the Solgenån, Brusaån and Silverån streams which join the Emån. Most lakes are clear water lakes fed by springs and therefore consist of unpolluted waters.
Fishing and angling is available for all visitors and fishing permit holders in some 40 lakes.
The most commonly found species are the perch, pike, roach, bream and tench. The perch is particularly frequent in these lakes and rivers. Pike fishing is generally very good, but is sometimes experienced as somewhat difficult and challenging in the larger and deeper lakes. This is because anglers often try fishing in shallow waters. But the big pikes are usually found at a depth of some 6–10 metres. Smaller pike are, however, often easily found near reeds and shoals.
The largest lake, Solgen, has a good stock of pike-perch, and rainbow trout have been introduced in several other waters. There are also good opportunities for whitefish fishing, such as roach, rudd and tench.
